Bhavaniswar Mandir

Murshidabad, West Bengal, India
Bhavaniswar Mandir is an exquisite temple located in Baranagar, Murshidabad. It was built in 1755 by Tarasundari, the daughter of the famous Rani Bhabani of Natore. Known as the tallest lime and mortar temple in Baranagar, its design is quite unique. The temple is dedicated to a Hindu deity and is a prime example of Bengal temple architecture. Rani Bhabani was a renowned philanthropist and a powerful zamindar, and she is said to have wanted to build 108 temples in Baranagar to elevate its status to that of Varanasi. While she only managed to build 107, the surviving temples, including Bhavaniswar Mandir, stand as a testament to her piety and architectural patronage. The temple is listed as a monument by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Its serene location on the banks of the Bhagirathi River adds to its spiritual and aesthetic appeal. ###
