The House of Jagat Seth is a museum that was once the residence of the incredibly wealthy Jagat Seth family. The title, "Jagat Seth," meaning "Banker of the World," was bestowed upon Manik Chand by Mughal Emperor Farrukhsiyar in 1707, recognizing the family's immense financial power. They were so in fluential that they controlled the mint and treasury of Bengal during the Nawabi period. The family played a key role in the political landscape, including their involvement in the conspiracy against Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah which led to the Battle of Plassey. The museum houses a collection of personal belongings, coins, and rare textiles, offering a glimpse into the life of this powerful dynasty.
