Jaswant Garh War Memorial

Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, India
Tribute to a Hero: The memorial is a poignant tribute to Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat of the 4 Garhwal Rifles, who single-handedly held off the advancing Chinese army for 72 hours during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. He was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra. Patriotic Site: The memorial is revere d as one of the highest battlefield memorials in India. It is maintained by the Indian Army as if the soldier is still alive: his uniform is ironed, boots polished, and a bed/blanket is laid out every night, a testament to the belief that his spirit still guards the post.
