History Of Khallari Mata Temple

Khallari Mata Temple is one of the most historically and spiritually significant sites in Chhattisgarh. Perched high on a hill, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Khallari Mata, a fierce form of Shakti. The site is deeply connected to the ancient Indian epic, the Mahabharata. Legend says that the P andavas stayed on this hill during their exile. The most famous evidence cited by locals is the massive footprint of Bhima, the strongest Pandava, which is clearly visible on a rock atop the hill. The climb to the temple consists of approximately 839 steps, making it a test of physical and spiritual endurance. For those unable to climb, a modern ropeway service has been introduced, offering a scenic bird's-eye view of the landscape. The atmosphere at the top is incredibly peaceful, with the wind howling through the temple bells. From the summit, one can see the vast plains of Mahasamund stretching out in every direction. The temple itself has a rich history of protecting the local community, and the goddess is believed to be very powerful. During the annual fairs, the hill becomes a sea of humanity as devotees from across the state gather to celebrate.
