How To Reach Tropical Beach

Dumka, Jharkhand, India
The Serene Riverbank Oasis: The Tropical Beach in Kumrabad is not a typical ocean beach but a beautifully developed section of the Mayurakshi River's bank, offering a refreshing and picturesque escape from the city hustle. This spot captures the essence of a tranquil retreat, providing soft, sandy p atches along the river where visitors can sit, relax, and enjoy the flowing water. The local name 'Tropical Beach' is a testament to the lush, green surroundings and the smooth, wide river which, during the lean season, creates small, inviting sandbars that resemble miniature beaches. A Community Gathering Spot: It serves as a popular picnic and gathering spot, especially during the winter months and on public holidays like Makar Sankranti or New Year's Day. The area is semi-developed with some basic facilities to accommodate tourists and local families who come for a day out. The gentle flow of the Mayurakshi River, a major tributary, contributes to the calm and peaceful atmosphere, making it ideal for reflection and unwinding. The background setting of small hills and green vegetation enhances the feeling of being close to nature. Natural Beauty and Accessibility: Its primary appeal lies in its easy accessibility from the main Dumka city and its contrast to the urban landscape. The riverbank here is wide and safe for children to play, while the river itself offers beautiful views, particularly at sunrise and sunset. It is a place where nature meets community leisure, embodying the simple, rustic charm of Jharkhand. This river bank is a central point for local festivities and a quiet spot for students from the nearby Sido Kanhu Murmu University to visit, often inspiring its connection with the "University View Point" area, which is nearby. The environment is carefully maintained by local groups, ensuring its natural beauty is preserved for all visitors to enjoy. The feeling of cool, river-washed air combined with the soft sands offers a unique, 'tropical' vibe in the heart of the district, making it a beloved destination.

How to Reach

By Air (Nearest Airport) The nearest major airport is Birsa Munda Airport (IXR) in Ranchi, approximately 300 KMS away. A closer, though less frequently connected, airport is Deoghar Airport (DGH), about 70 KMS away. From either airport, the remaining journey to Dumka and then to Tropical Beach must be completed by road (taxi or bus). From Deoghar, it takes about 2 to 3 hours by car. From Ranchi, it takes approximately 6 to 7 hours by car. By Train (Nearest Major Station) The nearest major railway station is Dumka Railway Station (DUMK), which is well-connected to major cities like Ranchi, Kolkata, Patna, and Bhagalpur. The station is conveniently located, and the Tropical Beach area is only about 6 to 8 KMS away. The journey from the station to the beach will take a maximum of 20 minutes by auto-rickshaw or taxi. Another major railhead nearby is Jasidih Junction (JSME), about 70 KMS away, which is better connected but requires an extra 2. 5-hour road journey to Dumka. By Road (Driving or Bus) Dumka is well-connected by State Highways (SH) and National Highways (NH), notably NH-114A. Regular state and private bus services run from major cities in Jharkhand and West Bengal (like Ranchi, Deoghar, Bhagalpur, and Kolkata). If driving, follow the main road towards Kumrabad and look for local signage or use GPS to navigate to the Lakarkhoar area. The journey by bus is economical but can be lengthy, while driving a private vehicle offers flexibility. By Local Transport (From Dumka City) Once you are in Dumka city, reaching Tropical Beach is straightforward and quick. The most common and convenient local transport is the auto-rickshaw (or tempo). Hiring an auto-rickshaw from the main bus stand or Thana Chowk will cost approximately Rs.100 to Rs.150 for a one-way trip, and they are readily available. You can also use local taxis or pre-booked cabs for a more comfortable journey. The short distance of under 5 KMS makes it a very accessible local destination. Always agree upon the fare with the auto driver before starting the journey.
