Photos Of Anjan Dham

Gumla, Jharkhand, India
Anjan Dham is one of the most significant and revered religious sites in the Gumla district, and indeed, in all of Jharkhand. It is widely believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman, the devout and powerful disciple of Lord Rama. The name of the village, 'Anjan,' is derived from the name of Lord Hanuman's mother, Mata Anjani. The main attraction is a unique temple dedicated to Mata Anjani, where an idol of a young Hanuman is depicted sitting on her lap. This particular depiction is considered to be one-of-a-kind in the entire country, attracting devotees from far and wide. The temple is situated atop a small hill, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding lush greenery and picturesque landscape. The serene environment, combined with the deep-rooted religious beliefs, provides a profound sense of peace and spirituality to visitors. The temple complex is also said to have 360 ancient Shiva Lingams and an equal number of small ponds, though many are now covered or in ruins. The journey to the temple itself is a spiritual experience, with a series of stone steps leading to the main shrine. The tranquility of the place makes it not just a pilgrimage site but also a spot for nature lovers and those seeking quiet reflection. The surrounding caves and archaeological remnants further add to its mystique, with local legends claiming that the cave where Hanuman was born has since been sealed by Mata Anjani herself. The site's immense religious and historical importance has made it a central pillar of faith for the local populace and a must-visit destination for tourists.
