Details: Chaiturgarh Fort, also famously known as Lafagarh, is an architectural and natural marvel perched at an altitude of 3,060 feet. Located in the Korba district, it is considered one of the strongest natural forts in India. The fort was significantly developed by the Kalachuri king Prithvideva I in the 11th century. It is uniquely surrounded by natural walls, with only a few man-made structures needed to make it impregnable. The plateau on top of the hill covers a vast area of about 5 square kilometers, housing several temples and ponds. The most famous structure within the fort is the Mahishasur Mardini Temple, dedicated to Goddess Durga. The temple features an idol with twelve hands, a rare and powerful representation of the deity. Historically, the fort served as a strategic military outpost due to its commanding view of the surrounding plains. The climb to the fort offers breathtaking views of the Maikal hills and dense forests. Despite the passage of centuries, many of the original stone walls and gateways remain intact. The site is now protected by the Archaeological Survey of India for its historical value. The trek to the top is a favorite among local adventurers and devotees alike. During the monsoon, the entire hill is covered in mist, making it look like a fortress in the clouds. It is a place where history meets nature in a spectacular display of strength. The peaceful environment on the hilltop provides a perfect setting for meditation and exploration. Visitors can still find ruins of ancient residential quarters and granaries used by the garrison. It remains a symbol of the glorious Kalachuri era of Chhattisgarh.:
