Betla National Park
Details: Betla National Park is one of India’s earliest tiger reserves, established under Project Tiger. Spanning over 226 sq. km, it is a biodiversity hotspot featuring sal and bamboo forests. The park is home to diverse fauna including tigers, leopards, and herds of wild elephants. It is also hi storically significant due to the presence of the twin Palamu Forts within its boundaries. The North Koel River and its tributaries flow through the park, providing water to the wildlife. Visitors can enjoy jeep and elephant safaris to explore the dense canopy. The park is part of the larger Palamau Tiger Reserve, which was one of the first nine reserves in India. It offers a mix of natural beauty and historical ruins, making it a unique destination. The terrain is undulating with hills like Murhu and Netarhat nearby. In winter, the park becomes a haven for nature lovers and photographers. The lush greenery and the sound of the wild provide a serene escape. It is a vital ecological zone for the Chhota Nagpur plateau. The park also features natural hot springs and waterfalls like Lodh Falls in the wider reserve area. Tribal villages coexist on the fringes, offering a glimpse into local culture.
