Betla National Park

Netarhat, Jharkhand, India
Betla National Park is one of the oldest and most significant wildlife sanctuaries in India, forming a part of the Palamu Tiger Reserve. Spread across a vast area of hilly terrain, the park is a sanctuary for a diverse range of flora and fauna, including the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger, Elephants, a nd Bison. The name Betla is an acronym for Bison, Elephant, Tiger, Leopard, and Axis-axis (Spotted Deer). The park is characterized by its thick Sal and Bamboo forests, which provide a natural habitat for over 170 species of birds and numerous mammals. Inside the park, one can also find the ruins of the Chero Kings' Fort, which adds a layer of historical intrigue to the wilderness. The North Koel River flows through the park, creating lush grasslands that attract herbivores in large numbers. A visit to Betla offers a raw safari experience where nature remains largely undisturbed by modern infrastructure. It is a place where you can hear the call of the wild and witness the predator-prey relationship in its most natural form. For travelers staying in Netarhat, a day trip to Betla is a journey from the misty heights of the plateau to the dense, tropical heart of the Jharkhand forests.
