Dongargarh

Ghoghrapur, Chhattisgarh, India
Details : Dongargarh is the most prominent pilgrimage center in Chhattisgarh, known for the Maa Bamleshwari Temple. The town gets its name from 'Dongar' (mountains) and 'Garh' (fort). The main temple, known as Badi Bamleshwari, is situated on a hill at a height of 1600 feet. To reach the top, devot ees can either climb over 1000 steps or take the state's only passenger ropeway. There is another temple at the foot of the hill called Chhoti Bamleshwari. Legend says the temple was built by King Veersen about 2200 years ago. The panoramic view from the hilltop is breathtaking, showing the lush green forests and the winding railway lines below. During festivals, the entire mountain glows with lights, creating a celestial atmosphere. It is a place where faith meets nature, attracting millions of pilgrims every year from across India. The town is also a center for education and communal harmony, housing several beautiful shrines and educational institutions.
