Eram

Bhadrak, Odisha, India
Eram, also known as "Rakta Tirtha" (The Field of Blood), is a historically significant place in the Bhadrak district. It is famously known as the "Second Jalianwala Bagh" of India due to a tragic massacre that took place here on September 28, 1942, during the Quit India Movement. A large number of f reedom fighters and villagers had gathered in a public meeting to protest against British rule. The police, led by DSP Kunjabihari Mohanty, opened fire on the peaceful gathering, resulting in the death of 28 people on the spot and injuring many more. The area is a peninsula, bounded on one side by the Bay of Bengal and on the other three sides by two rivers, the Gameye and Kansabansa, which made it a natural citadel for freedom fighters to hold their meetings. A memorial has been built here to honor the martyrs of the Eram massacre.
