The Jitkundi Water Reservoirs, locally known as Ohdar Bandh, is a significant water conservation project completed around 2023 as part of the NITI Aayog Rejuvenation Window-II, aiming to tackle severe water scarcity in the region. Spread over approximately 15 acres, this large rejuvenated water body in the Jitkundi panchayat has transformed the rural economy, which is heavily reliant on agriculture and groundwater resources. It ensures irrigation for hundreds of acres, supporting sustainable farming and improving crop quality. The reservoir is a shining example of technology-driven planning, utilizing a GIS tool called CLART for soil and water conservation to efficiently capture and store monsoon rainwater. The successful implementation, which involves a unique local governing body called Pani Panchayat for maintenance, has made it a model for rural water security and environmental conservation efforts across Jharkhand and India. It is not primarily a conventional tourist spot but a key community asset that has inadvertently become a peaceful, scenic destination for locals and a study site for sustainable development. The reservoir also supports small-scale businesses like fish farming, which contributes to the village and panchayat welfare. Its creation has significantly alleviated the hardships faced by local dwellers who previously suffered from extreme water crunch and low water levels.
