Gadiya Hill Watchtower
Historical Importance: Gadiya Hill, also known as Kila Dongri, was once the capital of the Kandra dynasty under King Dharma Dev. The watchtower sits atop the highest peak in the district, offering a strategic vantage point that was used for defense in ancient times. The hill is famous for the Sonai Rupai tank, which remarkably never dries up even in the peak of summer. Legend says the tank is named after the king's two daughters. The climb to the watchtower involves a steep trek, but the panoramic views of Kanker town and the Doodh River are breathtaking. The area is filled with caves, including the Jogi Gupha, which was used by monks for meditation. The watchtower itself has been renovated to accommodate tourists while maintaining its historical essence. It serves as a symbol of the region's royal heritage and military strategy. The surrounding cliffs are home to various birds of prey and unique rock-dwelling plants. During the Mahashivratri festival, the hill transforms into a major pilgrimage site.
