Gurkha Fort

Parwanoo, Himachal Pradesh, India
Perched at an altitude of 1,370 meters, the Gurkha Fort in Subathu is a monumental piece of history that dates back to the early 19th century. It was constructed by the legendary Gurkha Army Chief Amar Singh Thapa to safeguard the territory against British expansion. Today, the fort serves as a tra ining center for the 14 Gurkha Training Centre of the Indian Army, maintaining its military legacy. The fort is surrounded by a dense forest of pine and eucalyptus, providing a cool and refreshing atmosphere for visitors. Inside the complex, one can find ancient cannons that are over 180 years old, still standing as silent witnesses to past battles. The architecture of the fort is rugged and functional, designed for defense rather than luxury. It offers a unique perspective on the bravery and strategic brilliance of the Gurkha warriors who once occupied its ramparts. The journey from Parwanoo to Subathu is scenic, passing through winding mountain roads and lush valleys. Visitors are often moved by the museum located within the fort, which displays artifacts and stories of Gurkha valor. It is a site that commands respect and offers a deep dive into the martial history of the Himalayas. The panoramic views of the surrounding hills from the fort's height are nothing short of spectacular.:
