Historical Mound Sagban

Bhiwani, Haryana, India
The Historical Mound Sagban is a premier archaeological site that offers a window into India's ancient past, specifically the Kushana and Gupta periods. Located in the Tosham block, this site consists of two distinct mounds, known as Sagwan-I and Sagwan-II. Recent explorations have unearthed signif icant artifacts, including early medieval sculptures, ancient pottery, and structural remains of a temple. Archaeologists have identified a cultural deposition of approximately 4 to 5 meters, suggesting centuries of continuous habitation. The site is famous for the discovery of seven rare sculptures that are now preserved by the local community. These findings help historians plot the cultural landscape of ancient Hariyanaka (modern Haryana). The mound's proximity to the Tosham hill range, known for its pre-Indus Valley civilization mines, makes Sagban a critical point in the regional archaeological map. Visitors can see remains of walls built with burnt bricks that conform to the specific dimensions used during the Kushana era. While much of the site is under the jurisdiction of the village, the intact sections provide a raw, unfiltered look at history, far removed from the polished displays of modern museums. It is an essential stop for history buffs and researchers.
