Mughal History and Rejuvenation: The Jama Masjid in Moradabad, overlooking the Ramganga River, is a magnificent historical structure commissioned by Rustam Khan, the Mughal Governor, in 1631 AD (some sources say 1637 AD), the same official who contributed to the city's establishment. It stands as a profound symbol of the Mughal architectural style prevalent in monuments of the era, such as the Red Fort and the Taj Mahal in Agra and Delhi. Although its construction was initiated in the 17th century, the mosque fell into neglect until its rejuvenation in 1838 AD by Syed Alim Ali, who became its first Imam, marking a significant religious revival in the city. The mosque has undergone several expansions and renovations since the British period, evolving from its initial three arches and minimalist design to the grand, marble-clad structure seen today, making it a beautiful amalgamation of historical design and modern upkeep. It remains the most important place of worship for the Muslim community in Moradabad and is a key historical attraction, capable of hosting tens of thousands of worshippers during major festivals. Its central location and spiritual significance make it a core part of the city's identity and cultural heritage.
