How To Reach Belaur Surya Mandir

Bhojpur, Bihar, India
The Grandeur of Belaur Surya Mandir: The Belaur Surya Mandir is an architectural and spiritual marvel located in the Udwantnagar block of Bhojpur. This temple is unique because it is west-facing, unlike most traditional Sun temples that face east to greet the rising sun. It is situated in the middle of the massive Bhairavanand pond, giving it the appearance of a floating lotus when viewed from a distance. The temple's history dates back several centuries, with a significant reconstruction credited to Mauni Baba in the mid-20th century, though local lore mentions foundations laid by King Bavan Subwa in the 15th century. The temple is the primary center for Chhath Puja celebrations in the district, where lakhs of devotees gather to offer 'Arghya' to the Sun God. The reflection of the temple in the clear waters of the pond during sunrise and sunset creates a magical aura that attracts photographers and pilgrims alike. The deity inside is a magnificent white marble idol of Lord Surya, depicted riding his chariot drawn by seven horses. The surrounding complex includes smaller shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Goddess Durga, and Lord Vishnu, making it a comprehensive religious site. The temple has played a vital role in bringing peace to the region, and many locals believe its presence has protected the village from various calamities. The vastness of the pond and the tranquility of the village setting provide a perfect escape from the bustle of the city. For many, a visit to Belaur is a journey into the heart of Bihari culture, where faith is intertwined with nature and community service.
