How To Reach Chakratirth
A Confluence of Mythology and Nature: Chakratirth Beach is a centrally located coastal stretch in Diu, easily accessible from the main town. It is renowned for its unique blend of scenic beauty and deep Hindu mythology. The name "Chakratirth" translates to "Pilgrimage of the Chakra," stemming from a ncient folklore. According to local legend, a group of sages (rishis) performing penance sought protection from demons (Asuras) and appealed to Lord Brahma for aid. Lord Brahma created a celestial discus (Chakra) from the sun's rays and instructed the sages to follow it, promising them peace and safety where it eventually landed. The chakra is said to have landed at this spot, creating a natural depression or pool, marking it as a holy site and a place of spiritual significance. This mythical association imbues the beach with a sense of spiritual serenity. The beach itself is characterized by beautiful white sands and clear, azure waters. Geographically, it is located on a small cove, providing relatively gentle waves compared to some of the more open beaches, making it safer for wading. In addition to its mythological significance, Chakratirth is famous for its natural phenomenon: it is one of the few places in the world where one can witness the simultaneous spectacle of the sun rising and setting over the sea (or from adjacent viewing points). This unique feature is due to its favorable geographic position and the convergence of the sea and the horizon, offering a spectacular visual treat. The area is well-maintained, and a small, landscaped garden and seating area near the beach entrance enhance the visitor experience. Due to its proximity to the elevated viewing spot, the name is often used interchangeably with Sunset Point. The presence of the Dinosaur Park nearby, though completely modern and unrelated, adds a quirky, fun dimension to this historically and mythologically rich locale. How to Reach
By Air (Diu Airport): The nearest airport is Diu Airport (DIU), about 6 KMS away. A taxi or auto-rickshaw can reach the beach area quickly and directly.
By Train (Veraval Station): The closest major railway junction is Veraval Railway Station (VRL), which is 90 KMS away. From Veraval, one must hire a taxi or take a bus to Diu town, and then an auto-rickshaw to the beach. Delwada Railway Station (DWF) is a closer, local meter-gauge option (8 KMS), offering a transfer to local transport for the final leg.
By Road (Bus and Car): The beach is centrally located, easily accessible from the Diu Bus Station (approx. 2. 5 KMS) by auto-rickshaw. Diu is connected by good roads to Gujarat and Maharashtra cities. Self-driven cars can find parking near the point, though it may be busy in the evening.
By Local Transport (Auto-Rickshaw/Scooter): Being centrally located, Chakratirth is a very short and easy auto-rickshaw or hired scooter ride from anywhere in Diu town. Local drivers know the route well. It is also an easy walk from the main fort area for those who enjoy the mild coastal weather.
