Chandi Mandir in Brajarajnagar, often referred to as the Ram Chandi Temple, is one of the most spiritually significant and visually stunning shrines in the Jharsuguda district. The temple is uniquely situated inside a natural rock cave on the banks of the IB River, a major tributary of the Mahanadi . To reach the sanctum, devotees must descend a series of iron stairs that lead down the rocky cliffside toward the river level. This descent offers a breathtaking view of the river's confluence and the surrounding lush greenery. Inside the cave, the atmosphere is cool and meditative, with the sound of the flowing river providing a constant spiritual rhythm. The presiding deity, Goddess Chandi, is worshipped with deep devotion by the local community. Historically, the temple is associated with the era of the Ramayana, with legends suggesting that Lord Ram and Laxman rested here during their exile. It was also a site of strategic importance during the freedom struggle, as Veer Surendra Sai is said to have visited the goddess for blessings before his battles.
