How to Reach

By Air: The nearest major airport is Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) in Kolkata, approximately 270 KMS away. A closer, regional option is Birsa Munda Airport (IXR) in Ranchi, about 315 KMS away. From the airport, visitors must hire a pre-booked taxi/cab or take a train to Jamtara.

By Train: Jamtara Railway Station (JMT) is the most convenient and nearest railhead, located only about 12 KMS from the dam. It is well-connected on the Howrah-Patna-Delhi Main Line (Eastern Railway). Regular express and passenger trains from major cities like Kolkata, Patna, and Dhanbad stop here. From the station, an auto-rickshaw or taxi is required for the final stretch.

By Road: Jamtara is connected to major cities in Jharkhand and West Bengal via National Highway NH 114A and various state highways. The dam is easily accessible by a smooth road network from the town center. Visitors can drive their own vehicle or hire a cab from nearby major cities like Dhanbad (approx. 90 KMS) or Asansol (approx. 45 KMS).

By Local Transport: From the Jamtara town or railway station, the most common local transport is the auto-rickshaw or a shared electric rickshaw (e-rickshaw), which can be hired for a return trip directly to the dam site, taking about 30 minutes one-way. It is advisable to negotiate the fare beforehand.
