How To Reach Lakshman Dhara

Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, India
Lakshman Dhara is a magnificent natural spring located in the scenic terrains of the newly formed Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district, which was formerly part of Bilaspur. This site is steeped in mythological significance, as local lore suggests that Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Rama, created this water source by shooting an arrow into the ground during their exile to quench their thirst. The stream is unique because it maintains a steady flow of crystal-clear water throughout the year, even during the peak of the scorching summer months. Surrounded by dense forests of Sal and Saja trees, the area offers a tranquil escape for nature lovers and families seeking a quiet picnic spot away from the urban bustle of Bilaspur. The water cascades down a series of rocky steps, creating small natural pools where visitors often take a refreshing dip. The ecological diversity of the region is impressive, with various species of birds and small mammals frequently spotted near the water source. It serves as a vital water hole for the local wildlife, further enhancing its natural charm. The atmosphere here is deeply meditative, filled with the sounds of rustling leaves and the gentle babble of the flowing stream. Tourists often find themselves spending hours just sitting by the banks, soaking in the pristine environment. The local community holds the site in high regard, often performing small rituals near the mouth of the spring. Despite its increasing popularity, it remains a clean and relatively untouched destination. The drive from Bilaspur to this spot is equally enchanting, passing through winding ghat roads and tribal villages. It is an ideal spot for those who appreciate raw, uncommercialized nature and want to witness the geological wonders of the Maikal Hills.
