While the name Mau ryan suggests a historical link to the Mauryan Empire, there is no strong, verified archaeological evidence or significant architecture from that period at the spot itself; the name is largely a local appellation, perhaps a nod to the historical significance of the wider Surguja region (especially the nearby Ramgarh caves). It functions purely as a scenic tourist destination and a favorite spot for morning walkers, nature enthusiasts, and couples. The elevated location provides cool breezes and a tranquil atmosphere away from the city noise. The best time to visit is, predictably, the early morning hours to witness the sun cresting the horizon, painting the sky with vibrant colors. The area is largely undeveloped, retaining a rustic and natural charm, which is part of its appeal. Local authorities are slowly working on improving the access road and providing basic amenities to enhance the visitor experience. It serves as a natural balcony for the city. How to Reach

By Air: Nearest airport is Raipur's Swami Vivekananda Airport (RPR), approx. 320 KMs away. Take a pre-booked taxi or bus from Raipur to Ambikapur, and then a local vehicle to the Point.

By Train: Reach Ambikapur Railway Station (ABKP), which is approx. 15 KMs away. From the station, hire an auto-rickshaw or local taxi directly to the point. The drive up the final stretch might be on a rough road.

By Road: Ambikapur is well-connected by road networks like NH 130. Drive or take a state transport bus to Ambikapur. The point is accessible via Sunrise Point Road from the city center, a short drive on a well-known local route.

By Local Transport: The easiest way is to hire a dedicated auto-rickshaw from Ambikapur city center. Negotiate the fare for a round trip with waiting time. Taxis or private two-wheelers are also ideal for the final few kilometers of the ascent.
