From GAU, hire a pre-paid taxi or take a bus to Shillong (about 3-4 hours) and then a local Sumo/cab to Mawlynnong. The nearest smaller airport is Shillong Airport (SHL) at Umroi (approx. 103 KMS), which has limited connectivity, requiring a taxi for the final journey.
By Train: The nearest major railway station is Guwahati Railway Station (GHY) in Assam (approx. 170 KMS). From GHY, one must travel to Shillong by bus or shared taxi and then continue the journey to Mawlynnong by road, as Meghalaya currently has very limited rail connectivity. The entire train-to-village journey can take a minimum of 6-7 hours.
By Road: Mawlynnong is best reached by road. It is approx. 78 KMS from Shillong (the state capital, about 2. 5-3 hours drive) and approx. 90 KMS from Cherrapunjee (Sohra). The road is scenic, well-maintained, but winding. You can hire a private taxi, or the most popular and economical option is to take a shared Sumo or taxi from Shillong's Bara Bazaar or Anjali Cinema Point to Pynursla, and then a connecting local cab to Mawlynnong.
