How to Reach
By Road: The drive from Leh takes you over Chang La Pass and then along the entire northern shore of the lake. The road past Spangmik becomes a dirt track, requiring a sturdy vehicle and a driver skilled in navigating sandy and rocky terrains.
By Local Transport: There is no direct public bus to Merak; most travelers use shared taxis from Leh or hire a private cab for a two-day trip. Some adventurous travelers rent motorcycles, but they must be prepared for very rough road conditions beyond Spangmik.
By Foot: Some trekkers walk the shoreline from Spangmik to Merak as part of a multi-day exploration of the lake. This is a strenuous but rewarding way to see the landscape at a slow pace, allowing for frequent stops at hidden coves and viewpoints.
