Shivrinarayan Temple Details: The Shivrinarayan Temple, located in the town of the same name in the Janjgir-Champa district, is a site of immense mythological and historical importance. It is situated at the holy 'Triveni Sangam' or the confluence of three rivers: the Mahanadi, Shivnath, and Jonk. T his temple is deeply associated with the Ramayana, as it is believed to be the place where the devotee Shabari lived and offered tasted berries to Lord Rama during his exile. The temple complex is primarily dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Narayan) and Lord Shiva, symbolizing the harmonious blend of Vaishnavism and Shaivism in the region. The current structure was largely built during the 12th century by the Haihayavanshi kings, though the site has been sacred for much longer. The temple is not just a single building but a complex of several shrines, each with its own significance. The main temple houses a four-armed statue of Lord Vishnu, which is worshipped with great devotion. The spiritual aura of the place is enhanced by the presence of the vast Mahanadi river, which provides a serene backdrop for pilgrims. The town serves as a major center for the Nath panth and the Kabir panth, reflecting a diverse religious heritage. Every year, during the Magh Purnima, a massive fair is held here, drawing people from all over the country. The temple's stone walls are adorned with intricate carvings that depict scenes from various Puranas, making it a visual treat for those interested in ancient Indian art. It is considered one of the five most important pilgrimage sites in Chhattisgarh, often referred to as the "Gupt Kashi" of the region.

How to Reach

By Air: Reach Raipur (150 KMS) by flight and then hire a private vehicle or take a state bus via Bilaspur or Janjgir.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Akaltara (35 KMS) or Janjgir-Naila (45 KMS), but Bilaspur (65 KMS) is the most convenient junction for long-distance travelers.

By Road: It is well-connected by road to Bilaspur and Raipur; one can take the SH-9 which is in good condition.

By Local Transport: Regular bus services ply from Bilaspur bus stand to Shivrinarayan town throughout the day.
