By Train: The nearest practical rail access point is far away, requiring multi-day road travel over multiple high mountain passes:

By Road: The monastery is located roughly 18-20 KM north of Padum on the main Kargil road: The last section is a steep, unpaved approach road/track that climbs the hill to the monastery's entrance: A high-clearance SUV or 4x4 vehicle is essential for the final ascent, especially if the road is muddy: The Kargil-Padum road's opening season (Mid-June to Mid-October) is the only time it's accessible by vehicle:
By Local Transport: The best way is to hire a local Padum private or shared taxi for a full-day monastery circuit (Karsha, Sani, Stongdey, Tagrimo) Negotiate the fare for the entire circuit:
Trekking/Walking: It is a moderate-to-difficult 4-5 hour trek from Padum to the base and up the final climb: A common option is to drive to the base of the hill and then undertake the final 45-minute steep hike up to the monastery gate:
The Darcha Route: The alternative, often less used road route from Darcha (Himachal Pradesh) over Shingo La Pass is becoming an option, but it is extremely long and difficult:
