How To Reach Tura Christian Hospital Point

Tura, Meghalaya, India
Tura Christian Hospital Point is a location of profound historical and social significance, deriving its name and identity from the venerable Tura Christian Hospital established by the American Baptist Missionaries. This hospital is one of the oldest and most respected medical institutions in the en tire Northeast India, with its roots dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The "Point" itself refers to the immediate vicinity and surrounding elevated area of the hospital campus, which often provides a scenic viewpoint over parts of Tura town and the surrounding hills. The location stands as a powerful legacy of the selfless dedication of the early missionaries who provided not only spiritual ministry but also crucial health services and modern education to the then-isolated Garo people. In a region plagued by diseases like malaria and kala-azar, the hospital was a beacon of hope and modern medicine, fundamentally altering the health and social landscape of the Garo Hills. The area is characterized by a tranquil, academic, and clinical atmosphere, distinctly separate from the commercial bustle of the bazaar. Visitors to the point are often drawn by the sheer weight of history and the desire to pay homage to the foundational social work carried out here. The entire area symbolizes a turning point in Garo history, marking the beginning of widespread modern healthcare and education, as the missionaries also pioneered the use of the Roman script for the Garo language. This location is a silent monument to the convergence of faith, medicine, and social reform. The current hospital continues its dedicated service, making the point a living part of Tura's history.
