Junput

Shankarpur, West Bengal, India
The Untouched Beach: Junput is a hidden coastal gem that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and scientific research. It is famous for its extremely wide beach and the dense groves of Casuarina trees that create a green wall along the coast. One of the most unique aspects of Junput is the prese nce of the State Fisheries Department, which uses the brackish water here for fish cultivation and research. The beach is so vast that during low tide, the sea recedes nearly 2 KMS, leaving behind a hard sandy surface that is often used by local fishermen to dry their catch. The atmosphere is quiet, rustic, and far removed from the typical tourist bustle. It feels like a traditional fishing village where life moves at the pace of the tides. The air is filled with the scent of the sea and the sound of the wind whistling through the Casuarina needles. It is also a significant spot for shark oil extraction research, adding a scientific layer to its identity. For nature lovers, it is a paradise for birdwatching and long, solitary walks where you might not see another soul for miles.
