Khambhalida Caves

Rajkot, Gujarat, India
The Khambhalida Caves are a set of three ancient Buddhist caves that date back to the 4th or 5th century AD. Discovered in 1958 by archaeologist P.P. Pandya, these caves represent the rich Buddhist history of the Saurashtra region. The central cave is a Chaitya hall which features a worn-out stupa and massive sculptures of Bodhisattvas. The atmosphere here is deeply meditative, reflecting the lives of the monks who once resided here. Carved out of limestone rocks, the caves stand as a testament to the artistic skill of ancient craftsmen. They are situated at the foot of small hillocks near a natural spring, providing a picturesque setting for history buffs and spiritual seekers alike.
