Palamau Tiger Reserve

Medininagar, Jharkhand, India
The Palamau Tiger Reserve is one of the first nine tiger reserves established in India under Project Tiger. While the core zone is highly protected, the Buffer Zone offers a unique opportunity for tourists to experience the wildlife and tribal life of the region. This zone is characterized by its m ixed deciduous forests, predominantly consisting of Sal and Bamboo. It serves as a vital corridor for elephants, leopards, and various species of deer like the Chital and Sambar. The buffer zone also houses several small tribal hamlets, where visitors can witness the traditional lifestyle of the Chero and Kharwar tribes. The landscape is dotted with small rivers and streams that dry up in summer but roar during the monsoon. It is a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 170 species of birds recorded. The area is also historically significant, housing the ancient Palamu forts within its vicinity.
