Sub Place Details: The Naulakha Palace is the oldest extant palace in Gondal, dating back to the 18th century (specifically 1748 AD). It was constructed during the reign of Haloji Sagramji and is part of the extensive Darbargadh fort complex. The name "Naulakha" literally translates to "nine lakhs," signifying the total cost of construction—nine hundred thousand rupees—which was an astronomical sum during that era. This palace stands as a testament to the opulence and cultural richness of the Jadeja Rajput dynasty. Visitors are often captivated by its magnificent facade, which serves as a festival of stone carvings. Inside, the palace houses a private museum featuring an incredible collection of silver caskets, brassware, and royal wardrobes. One of the most unique exhibits is a collection of toy cars and a library of ancient books once belonging to the Maharaja. The palace is situated on the banks of the Gondal River, offering a serene atmosphere that blends historical grandeur with natural beauty. It remains one of the most well-preserved heritage sites in the Saurashtra region, reflecting a bygone era of Indian royalty.
