Raj Chainpur Fort Palamu

Medininagar, Jharkhand, India
Sub Place Details: The Raj Chainpur Fort is a historic stronghold that stands as a testimony to the regal past of the Palamu region. Unlike the more famous Palamu Forts in Betla, this fort is located closer to the city and was the seat of the Chainpur estate. It was built by the local rulers who wer e influential during the Mughal and British periods. The fort complex includes residential quarters, administrative blocks, and several temples. Though parts of the fort are in ruins, the massive stone walls and the ornate gateways still reflect its former grandeur. The fort provides a commanding view of the Koel river and the city of Medininagar. It is a popular spot for history buffs and those looking to understand the local feudal history of Jharkhand. The architecture shows a blend of Rajput and local tribal styles. Legend says that the fort had secret tunnels leading to the riverbank for escape during sieges.
