The Gateways of Manaranjan: The ruins of the gateway on Manaranjan Fort provide a beautiful photo motif, especially when framed against the backdrop of the distant hills and the other fort.
The Kal Bhairav Temple: The moss-covered stones of the ancient Kal Bhairav Temple make for an atmospheric photo, especially in the misty weather, capturing the fort's spiritual side.
The Lonavala Approach Road: The long, winding dirt road from the Lonavala side is great for capturing the sense of the journey, with the fort slowly emerging in the distance against the green landscape.Photo Gallery

The Scenic Lonavala Trek: The long, relatively flat trek route from Lonavala is famous among beginners and is considered one of the most beautiful trails, especially during the monsoon when the road is lush with greenery and mist.
Historical and Spiritual Significance: Its connection to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the presence of the ancient Kal Bhairav Temple and Buddhist caves give it deep historical, military, and spiritual importance. -

This twin design provided layered defense and superior surveillance. Shriwardhan is the higher peak (approx. 3000 feet/920 meters), and Manaranjan is the slightly lower one. Each fort has its own independent fortifications, bastions, and gateways.
Defensive Walls and Gateways: The architecture features massive, dry-masonry defense walls built along the steep cliff edges of both peaks. The gateways on each fort, while largely in ruins, show the classic Maratha style of narrow, defensible entrances.
Internal Structures and Caves: The fort complex contains ruins of barracks, large rock-cut water cisterns, and the prominent Kal Bhairav Temple. The most ancient structures are the Buddhist rock-cut caves near the base of the plateau, predating the fort by centuries. -
How To Reach:
By Air: Fly to Pune (PNQ) (85 KMS) or Mumbai (BOM) (110 KMS) and take a private cab to the base.
By Train: The nearest railway station is Lonavala. You can also travel to Karjat on the other side of the mountain.
