Cabo De Rama Fort is one of Goa's oldest and most historically significant forts, perched majestically on a dramatic cliff overlooking the Arabian Sea. Its history predates the Portuguese, with local Hindu rulers and then Muslim invaders controlling it before the Portuguese seized it in 1763. The fo rt is named after Lord Rama of the Ramayana epic, who is believed to have taken refuge here during his exile. Although much of the structure is now in picturesque ruins, the thick laterite stone walls, several cannons, and the towering bastions still stand, commanding breathtaking, panoramic views of the coastline stretching north and south. The most notable surviving structure is the well-preserved Chapel of St. Anthony, which is still actively used by the local community and provides a stark, whitewashed contrast to the dark, crumbling fort walls. The fort offers unparalleled views, especially at sunset, when the entire western horizon turns into a canvas of color. Its location, far from the main tourist hubs, ensures a quiet, contemplative atmosphere, appealing to history buffs, photographers, and those seeking a majestic natural viewpoint. The fort area covers a massive 180,000 sq. meters, giving visitors ample space to explore the ruins and the grounds.
