Heritage of Chandragiri Fort: Chandragiri Fort is a 17th-century fortification located on the banks of the Payaswini River near its confluence with the Arabian Sea. Built by Sivappa Nayaka of Bednore, the fort was part of a chain of fortifications intended to protect the kingdom from seafaring inva ders. The fort sits atop a hill, approximately 150 feet above sea level, offering a strategic vantage point over the coastline and the river. Its history is marked by shifting allegiances, having been under the control of the Vijayanagara Empire, the Ikkeri Nayakas, Hyder Ali, and eventually the British. Today, the fort is a protected monument under the state archaeology department. Though much of the interior is in ruins, the massive laterite walls and bastions still stand tall, whispering stories of ancient battles and naval defenses. The panoramic view of the river meeting the sea is considered one of the most beautiful sights in Kasaragod. The fort's location makes it a popular spot for sunset watchers and history enthusiasts who wish to explore the lesser-known ruins of the region.
