Reviews Of Jataprolu Village Temples
Mahabubnagar, Telangana, India
Jataprolu, historically known as Jatayuvu Kshetra, is a site of immense spiritual and heritage significance located on the banks of the Krishna River. Legend has it that this is the place where the mythical bird Jatayu fell after battling Ravana to rescue Goddess Sita. The village is renowned for t he Madana Gopala Swamy Temple, an architectural masterpiece built by the Rajas of Jetprole in the 16th century. Interestingly, these temples were painstakingly relocated from their original sites in Malleswaram and Manchalakota during the construction of the Srisailam Dam to prevent them from being submerged. The complex also houses a group of ancient Shiva Temples dating back to the 10th century. Visitors can explore more than 20 Shivalayams within a short distance of the main shrine, many of which feature incredible stone carvings and historical inscriptions. The spiritual aura of the village is heightened during festivals when pilgrims gather for a holy dip in the river. This destination offers a perfect blend of mythology, history, and tranquil riverine landscapes, making it a must-visit for heritage enthusiasts.
