Shilloi Lake
Shilloi Lake is one of the most stunning natural wonders in Nagaland and a major tourist attraction in the Phek district. The lake is nestled in a beautiful valley at the base of the Patkai mountain range, which runs along the border with Myanmar. The lake is shaped like a footprint and is surrounde d by lush green forests and pine trees, creating a serene and picturesque landscape. The local Pochury tribe considers the lake sacred, and it is believed to be the abode of spirits. There are many legends associated with the lake, one of which says that a baby was found floating in the middle of the lake, and two hands were seen bobbing the baby. It is said that the baby is the reigning queen of the lake and that the spirits of the lake are its protectors. It is also believed that no one can drown in the lake, and there have been no reported deaths by drowning. The lake is also a haven for migratory birds, including Siberian Cranes, making it a great place for birdwatching.
