Shiv Waterfall

Mainpat, Chhattisgarh, India
Shiv Waterfall, sometimes referred to locally as Shivani Waterfall, is a picturesque cascade renowned for its multi-tiered flow over naturally formed rock steps. Unlike the rugged, single-drop waterfalls, this one flows gently down a series of carved-out rocks, which gives it a serene and less turbu lent appearance. The waterfall is a highly revered spot because of a small, naturally formed Shivalinga rock near its base or surrounding area, which gives the cascade its religious significance, attracting devotees alongside tourists. The surrounding area is characterized by lush forest and a clear water pool at the bottom, ideal for bathing (with local caution). The path to the waterfall often involves a short, manageable trek. Its relative proximity to the main Mainpat village makes it a popular day-trip destination for families and pilgrims alike.

Dimension: The total height of the cascade is estimated at 20-30 meters (65-100 feet), flowing over a series of gentle gradients rather than a single vertical drop. The most significant man-made feature is the small, basic shrine/temple structure built near the naturally occurring Shivalinga rock, reflecting vernacular temple architecture. This shrine is built from local stone and materials.
