Shiva Mandir, Deobaloda

Durg, Chhattisgarh, India
The Ancient Shiva Temple in Deobaloda is a 13th-century architectural marvel built by the Kalachuri dynasty. It is famously known as the Chhamahi Mandir (Six-Month Temple) because legend says it was built during a night that lasted six months. This temple is a protected monument under the Archaeolo gical Survey of India (ASI). The temple complex features a sacred Kund (pond) which is believed to be connected to the town of Arang via a secret underground tunnel. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the main Lingam is situated about 3 feet below the floor level. The walls are covered with exquisite carvings of gods, dancers, and hunters. It is a site where history and mythology blend seamlessly. Visitors are often captivated by the incomplete Shikhara, which adds to the temple's mystery. The site serves as a vital link to the medieval history of the Durg region.
