Shri Sammed Shikharji
Holiest Jain Teerth: Shri Sammed Shikharji, located on the Parasnath Hills, is the most sacred pilgrimage site for Jains. It is the place where 20 out of the 24 Tirthankaras attained Nirvana (salvation). The hill is named after Lord Parshvanatha, the 23rd Tirthankara, who also achieved Moksha here. The pilgrimage involves a 27 KM trek through the hills, visiting various "Tonks" (small shrines) dedicated to the Tirthankaras. The base camp, Madhuban, is a bustling town filled with beautiful temples, dharamshalas, and museums. The entire atmosphere is one of extreme devotion, discipline, and non-violence. Thousands of pilgrims perform the trek barefoot as a mark of penance. The hills are also part of a wildlife sanctuary, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding forests and valleys. It is not just a religious site but a journey of the soul that tests one's physical and mental endurance.
