Sun Temple

Bhojpur, Bihar, India
Spiritual History of Belaur Sun Temple: The Sun Temple at Belaur is one of the most revered religious sites in Bhojpur. It is unique because it is a west-facing temple, which is rare for solar shrines that traditionally face the rising sun in the east. The temple is situated in the middle of a massi ve pond known as the Bhairavanand Talaab. Local legends state that the temple was originally built by King Bavan Subba in 1506 and later renovated in 2007 by a saint known as Mouni Baba. The idol of Lord Bhaskar (the Sun God) was brought from Jaipur after a divine struggle between the saint and the local king of that time. The temple is a focal point for the Chhath Puja festival, attracting lakhs of devotees who believe that a dip in the holy pond can cure skin diseases and fulfill heart's desires. The spiritual energy of the place is palpable, especially during the sunset when the rays of the sun hit the idol directly. It stands as a symbol of faith that transcends local boundaries, drawing people from Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
