Road Safety: This is a spot on a high-speed highway. Always pull your vehicle completely off the road and be extremely careful of oncoming traffic, especially when stepping out.
Altitude Check: Ensure you feel well. If dizzy, sit down immediately.
Rest Stop: Use this point for a mandatory 15-minute rest if you've been driving for several hours, especially after crossing the challenging Zoji La Pass.Packing Essentials:
Water and Snacks: Always carry extra water and energy bars, as services are non-existent or temporary at this point.
Emergency Kit: Keep a basic first-aid kit and a warm blanket in your car, as weather can change instantly.
Binoculars: Essential for spotting distant features and potential wildlife in the deep valley.Accommodation:
No Facilities: There is absolutely no accommodation or formal shelter at the viewpoint. The nearest reliable stays are in Drass (approx. 30 KM) or Kargil (approx. 15 KM). Plan your journey to reach one of these towns before dark.Other Tips:
Leave No Trace: Pack out all trash. The pristine mountain environment is fragile.
Military Sensitivities: Do not point cameras toward any obvious military installations or restricted areas (e.g., watchtowers, bunkers). Follow all signage and military instructions implicitly.
Check Road Status: Before driving the NH1 (especially in the shoulder season), check the road status with the BRO or local police for closures due to weather or military movement.
