AMS and Acclimatization: Pensi La is at 4,400 meters. Spend several days acclimatizing in lower areas like Kargil and then Rangdum before the final ascent. Do not exert yourself at the pass.

Carry Oxygen: It is advisable to carry a portable oxygen cylinder in the vehicle as a precaution, especially for those prone to AMS.

Driving and Weather: Never attempt the crossing in poor weather (snow, heavy rain). Only use a skilled, local driver. 4x4 is highly recommended. Always check the very latest BRO road status before starting the journey.

Survival Kit:
Carry a basic survival kit in your vehicle: extra blankets, dry food, plenty of water, and basic vehicle repair tools, as help is hours away.
Accommodation:
Rangdum Stopover: An overnight stop at Rangdum (or a certified campsite) is mandatory to break the journey and aid acclimatization before the final climb and descent.

Fuel Up: Ensure your vehicle is completely refueled in Kargil or Padum, as there are no reliable fuel stops on the pass.

Respect the Glacier: Maintain a respectful distance from the Drang Drung Glacier and its meltwater streams; they are extremely cold and the ground is unstable.
