Udayan Buddha Bihar

Kailashahar, Tripura, India
Udayan Buddha Bihar is the oldest Buddhist monastery in the state of Tripura, established in 1933. It is a vital cultural landmark for the Chakma and Mog Buddhist communities of the region. The monastery is home to a magnificent idol of Lord Buddha made of 'Ashtadhatu' (eight metals), which is a ra re piece of religious art. The Bihar serves as a school for novice monks and a center for meditation and community gatherings. The atmosphere is extremely peaceful, filled with the scent of incense and the sound of occasional chants. It stands as a symbol of the religious harmony prevalent in Tripura. Every year, it becomes the center of attraction during the Buddha Purnima celebrations. The monks are very welcoming and often share insights into the Buddhist way of life. The surrounding area of Pecharthal is predominantly Buddhist, which enriches the cultural experience. It is a place where history, art, and spirituality converge seamlessly.
