Badkhal Lake
Former Glory and Present Status: Badkhal Lake was once a prominent, picturesque natural lake nestled in the lap of the Aravalli hills, famous for its scenic beauty, boating, and as a popular picnic spot, especially between the 1970s and 1990s. It was created by a man-made embankment (bund) between t wo Aravalli hills to trap rainwater for irrigation post-1947. The Drying Up: Unfortunately, due to unchecked mining in the neighboring areas and a decline in the water table, the lake has been largely dry for over two decades. Despite its current dried state, the location remains a significant, scenic landmark, with Haryana Tourism still maintaining a functional resort and hosting an annual Flower Show in Spring. Major revival projects are periodically announced to restore its water-filled past.
