Choklangan Village
Choklangan Village is perhaps the most ecologically diverse spot in the Noklak district, serving as the base camp for expeditions to Mt. Khulio King (also known as Mt. Khelia), the second-highest peak in Nagaland. The village has gained international recognition for its Community Conserved Area (CC A), where over 4500 hectares of forest have been set aside by the villagers to protect rare flora and fauna. This area forms part of a "Biodiversity Peace Corridor," connecting various habitats along the border. The village is home to the Khiamniungan tribe, who are celebrated for their unique craftsmanship, particularly the weaving of fabrics from Ehlon-Niu (nettle fiber). Visitors to Choklangan are treated to a landscape of dramatic elevation changes, from deep river valleys to alpine meadows near the mountain summit. The forest is a treasure trove of biodiversity, housing species like the Hoolock Gibbon, the rare Blyth’s Tragopan, and even the elusive black bear.
