FAQs On Kollapur Palace
Nagarkurnool, Telangana, India
The Kollapur Palace, also known as the Jetprole Palace, is a majestic testament to the royal heritage of the Jetprole Samsthanam, one of the oldest and most significant princely states in Telangana. Built originally in the year 1871 by the rulers of the Surabhi Dynasty, this palace served as the ad ministrative and residential seat of the local kings who were known for their patronage of art, literature, and architecture. The palace is nestled in the scenic town of Kollapur, which is often referred to as "Telangana Mysore" due to its wide, well-planned roads, lush green plantations, and mango orchards that mimic the layout of the famous city in Karnataka. Historically, the Jetprole rulers were significant military guardians for empires like the Vijayanagara and later the Nizams of Hyderabad, maintaining strategic control over the Nallamala forest region and the banks of the River Krishna. The palace complex is vast, housing several structures that reflects the transition of the family’s power from the ancient Jataprolu Fort (now submerged in the Srisailam Dam waters) to this modern residence. Entering the palace grounds feels like stepping back into the 19th century, with its grand doorways, wooden carvings, and a palpable sense of royal legacy. The surroundings are particularly serene, with the Krishna River providing a natural backdrop that enhances the historical charm of the edifice. Visitors today can explore the remnants of this opulent lifestyle, observing the old horse-drawn carts and the administrative buildings that once buzzed with state affairs. It stands as a vital link to the regional history of Nagarkurnool, showcasing the socio-cultural evolution of the Deccan plateau under various dynasties including the Qutb Shahis and the Mughals. :
