Originally, it stood in the village of Erladinne (or Erula Dinne) on the left bank of the Krishna River, but was slated for submergence due to the construction of the Srisailam Reservoir Project in the late 1970s. To save this invaluable piece of heritage, the State Archaeology Department undertook the arduous task of dismantling the entire structure stone-by-stone, carefully numbering each piece, and then reconstructing it on a new, safe foundation within the Pillalamarri Banyan Tree complex in Mahabubnagar town in 1983. This act of preservation itself adds a layer of modern historical significance to the temple, making it a rare example of a successful architectural transplant in India, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to appreciate ancient art that was rescued from oblivion.
