Gurudwara Rupana
The Miracle of the Crow: Located in the village of Rupana, this Gurudwara is steeped in a fascinating legend involving the tenth Guru. After the historic battle at Khidrana (Muktsar), Guru Gobind Singh Ji stopped here on 28th Baisakh, 1706. While he was resting under a tree, a wild crow began cawing loudly and persistently. The Guru, sensing a spiritual soul trapped in the bird, shot an arrow and killed the crow. When the bewildered disciples asked about the act, the Guru explained that the crow was actually an old village headman who had been cursed for his past misdeeds. By killing him in this sacred spot, the Guru provided 'Mukti' or salvation to the tormented soul. This story highlights the Guru's role as a redeemer of souls. The village of Rupana has since been a site of pilgrimage for those seeking spiritual liberation. The Gurudwara was originally a small structure but has been expanded through 'Kar Seva' into a massive complex. Interestingly, the area around the Gurudwara often faces waterlogging, which has led to the lower floor being closed off, giving the shrine a unique floating appearance during the rainy season. The local community is deeply involved in the maintenance of the shrine, and the atmosphere here is one of deep rural piety. It serves as a reminder that the Guru's grace extended beyond the battlefield to the common people and even the animal kingdom. Visitors often find the legend of the crow a moving example of divine compassion and the breaking of karmic cycles.
