Sub Place Details: The Baitarani River Viewpoint at Dashashwamedh Ghat is the spiritual heart of Jajpur. Known as the 'Ganges of Odisha', the Baitarani River is one of the six major rivers of the state and is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. The viewpoint offers a stunning panoramic view of the wid e riverbed, especially beautiful during the early morning hours when the mist hangs over the water. This spot is historically significant as the site where King Yayati Kesari performed a massive ten-horse sacrifice (Dashashwamedh Yajna) in the 10th century. The riverbank is lined with ancient temples, including the Saptamatrika temple, and long flights of stone steps (ghats) that lead down to the water. It is a place of constant activity, where pilgrims perform ancestral rites (Pinda Daan) and take holy dips. The viewpoint has been recently renovated with better lighting and seating arrangements, making it a peaceful place for evening walks. The sight of the river flowing calmly through the historic town of Jajpur evokes a sense of timelessness. It is not just a place for sightseeing but a portal into the ancient religious traditions of India. The atmosphere here is thick with the scent of incense and the sound of temple bells, offering a profound experience of Odisha's "Biraja Kshetra."
